"What
drives my decision to release this monograph as a book is the current
destruction in Syria. Like everyone else, I am deeply concerned about
Syrian citizens leaving their homes and villages or what was left of
them. Pushed from their homeland, they risk many dangers to try to find
safety and a chance to build new lives in Europe and beyond. As I write,
terror and desperation drive citizens to leave everything formerly
familiar and safe. They leave en masse to pass through Turkey, Hungary
and other areas. Frantic to find asylum, they are thwarted by people
